ACT 1 CHARACTERS AND CHARACTERIZATION
A character is a player in a literary text such as a play.
1. Osogo
A wise male weaver bird, he is synonymous with the lute which he cither plays on stage or reminds us of his presence in the background throughout the play.
He is the first character to appear on stage which underlines his importance in the play. This is hinted by his latent anger after the Waver Massacre. ……………….

ACT 1 STYLISTIC DEVICE

Motif

In literature, a motif is a recurring idea crated by recurring events or ideas which create a pattern that points to an idea that isn’t mentioned, especially one that underscores the symbolic importance of the said idea or event.

When we first meet him, Osogo is ‘perched on a stone…engrossed in his flute’.

This underscoreres his melancholy and despondency, which we later learn stems

from his losing friends during the Weaver Massacre. ……………..
